Leah started on this trip with visions of filling several steamer trunks with clothing to bring home, so the reality of the falling dollar put a damper on her expectations. Her Parisian treasures will fit nicely in a carry on.

The fall in the dollars value is causing quite a stir among the US ex-pat community. For those of us who are paid in Euros it’s not a big deal, but Americans living on dollars have seen their cost of living go up substantially in the last few months. Retirees are big losers, as well as students and the ‘thanks-dads’ (trust funders) are also feeling the pinch.

Its not just Americans complaining, when we were out the other night a Kuwaiti was complaining that since oil is priced in dollars the recent price increases have not brought the purchasing power that was expected. I don’t feel sorry for him as he spent most of the evening showing off a new diamond Patek Phillippe.

Leah and David go home this evening, today we’ll brunch and go to the flea market. They’ll spend a typical Kimmie Sunday in Paris, then Dad and I will take them to CDG. When I caught her alone yesterday I asked her if she was going to marry him, she avoided answering but her eyes said she hoped to. It might be too soon; but I won’t be too shocked if she shows up in St.Bart’s after Christmas with a diamond.

G, since we messaged about this the dollars value rose then fell again. It's still not pretty.
