We sat at a high top in a small café around the corner from the live/work space that Christine is sharing with another artist. The street was quiet, the summer sun heating everything up but it wasn’t scorching like the previous week. Since I arrived we’ve been chatting, subjects large, small and personal. Though we communicate several times a week, we both find it comforting to sit across from each other and talk regardless of the subject.

The current subject was design and image, and the perceptions that these make on observers. A large, older two-door car, a Camaro, I think, one of those cars with a bird decal on the hood. Cars park along this street on the diagonal, which allowed us to see the rear window, to which a large image of the Playboy logo was adhered. We both glanced at it, but paid no mind, this is a small mid western city after all. We did pay attention when the driver got out. Tall, skinny and dressed in the manner of Buffalo Bill complete with sideburns merging with a mustache and a goatee.

He entered the café and ordered something to take out and a Bud. After receiving the beer he walked over to our table and introduced himself. Up close he has half attractive, but for the mouth of twisted and gapped teeth, he spoke with a bit of forced confidence but not so much as to seem silly. He told us he was a DJ and did parties and weddings; he gave us his business card and a brochure from a satchel that he carried. C engaged him in a conversation, she’s good at getting men to talk, and I suspect a skill learned from her days as a stripper. When the his food was ready he swallowed the last of the beer and said goodbye and C and I returned to our conversation of image, design and added in style.

I'm with El Bow on that one. It would complete the picture. You were either out west or the far reaches of the Midwest. The man was not a day younger than 40, most likely. Cheers & Good Luck! 'VJ'
