Before Christmas I had dinner with Jacques and we exchanged gifts. It wasn’t a ‘date’ in any sense; just friends getting together near the holiday.

While driving to meet him I reflected on how complicated our relationship is. He was among my earliest escort clients and my first regular. At a time when I was still figuring out the chops of that biz, he was hiring me as a companion. When you see someone for an hour or an evening, maintaining the conversation is pretty straight forward as it is done in our regular lives all the time, but overnights and weekends or even seeing someone several times in a month is different.

If the time is spent with someone who you are becoming romantically involved with you find your way through these situation, often by revealing a lot about yourself. With a client you are careful about revealing much and often they are also. That was the situation I was in with Jacques, who is a private person and me, though a chatterbox, trying to keep myself hidden.

It was out of desperation to fill the silences in our outings (at the time I really felt I needed to), that I began to ask him about business. Not his businesses, but things I’d read about in the paper. I’d ask him to analyze something and then ask a bunch of questions till I really understood. Business is as much Jacques hobby as photography is, and that is the only subject that gets him talking as much as business will. With me he had a sponge that was willing and desired to soak up as much knowledge as possible.

Over time another relationship developed, mentor and mentored. When I initially began thinking about a business for myself and hit upon an idea, I took my nearly finished business plan to him and he shredded it and then helped me focus on why I wanted my own business and made a very good suggestion. While he has made no investment in Kim & Co., he has helped me out by giving me contact information of business acquaintances and the appropriate managers in his own companies. Today two of his subsidiaries are Kim & Co. clients. Season all this with the fact that I’ve long been a little bit in love with Jacques and we have a complicated relationship.

I gave Charles his walking papers. He was furious; but I did it over lunch at his club and he tried to keep from making a complete scene. It was bad for his ego to be dumped in front of you friends. What was transpiring did not go completely unnoticed, which is what I hoped. Now I need to prepare myself for the blowback.

Saturday, Natalie, Chloe and I will travel down to see baby TT and the three wise women jokes have already started. Rather than frankincense and myrrh we’ll bear baby clothes, toys and food and wine for the parents.

La Femme posted this interview by Barbara Walters with Anna Wintour. As Anna I’m sure expected, Barbara asked about the Devil Wears Prada. You can see Anna struggling to contain her anger. During her response she couldn’t even look at Barbara. I kept waiting for the horns and tail to pop out and for Anna to smote Barbara to the fires.

Kim & Co has found office space, a sublet all furnished and we can utilize their receptionist also. The move in date is in mid January. More later.

Your relationship with Jacques is definitely complicated but a very special one indeed. Got you fired Charles but hope it won't mean some kind of serious consequences in the future. Wish you a happy New Year, Kim! :)

Yes, good show with Charles. I'd almost suggest having any future contacts with troublesome gents done at their clubs, but it might not all work out as well. I'd be watching for a blowback or the inevitable gambit of a 'creep back' too.

It's good to hear that Jacques continues to be a good and useful friend. Yes, things can get complicated with all the friends we love.

It's good to hear of the progress of Kim & co too. Cheers & Wishing you much Good Luck in the New Year! 'VJ'

Happy New Year! And thanks for the shout out. Of course, due to my mother's virus infested computer and horrible toddler-induced jetlag I have been horrible at posting over the past month but I feel like the pressure is on to justify the traffic you're sending my way.
