Kim &Co has been representing clients at auto shows long enough that I’ve gotten to know several of the other vendors and the marketing representatives of the manufacturers. Show workers build up a social circle that provides an outlet for relaxation and getting away from our co-workers. Last evening a group of girls camped out in one of the suites for an evening of chatter, lots of wine, take-out and for entertainment videos of what was happening on the runways in Paris and at the other recent fashion shows. Sort of a slumber party without the sleepover.

Every now and then a mobile would chirp urgently, the owner would look at it and mostly dismiss the contact, but sometimes she would look at the group and apologetically say she needed to take the call. There wasn’t the usual complaining about work, as some of the group worked for competitors, but there was a lot of industry gossip and more than a little job hunting; the grass being always greener. When midnight came we all went back to our rooms and dealt with the messages, our little space of sanity closed for the moment.

Sounds like a fun time and probably way more fun than the fashion shows.

Kim, I hope you get a chance to have a little fun in Geneva while you are at the auto show. You seem to be working all the time except for this one night with the girls. I was hoping you would meet a group of playful guys having a little fun. Please don't work all the time.

PM, I work most of the time. Its the problem of having your own business. I drive my friends crazy, but next week I'm taking some vacation.

G, going to a fashion show can be fun, but it seems less so to me, since its business. The group of women I was with were just so much more relaxed. We had fun watching the vids, and if we represent consumers at all, the padded shoulders won't last long. We did like the 40's references in the Paris shows.
